on est tous des pédés – we are all fags

coverfront01small.jpg

somehow this song by the great georges moustaki resonates with the a homosexual life post. homosexuality as something not really connected to the homosexual act, but to a way of living. i just have this fantasy that foucault had actually the idea regarding a homosexual way of life because one of his lovers listened day in, day out to georges moustaki (the record in question came out in 1975, so hey, it could be, right?) – maybe one day some note on a paper-napkin will surface with something like “moustaki – homosexual – way of living” on it?

make up your own mind if the connection is too far fetched or not. here are the lyrics to the song “on est tous des pédés” including my english translation:

on est tous des pédés
WE ARE ALL FAGS

on est tous des drogués
WE ARE ALL DRUGGIES
des faignants alcooliques
PRETENDING ALCOHOLICS
qui ne pensent qu’à draguer
OUR THOUGHTS ARE ONLY OCCUPIED WITH CRUISING
et jouer de la musique
AND PLAYING MUSIC
des poètes ratés
MISSED POETS
intellectuels gauchistes
LEFT-WING INTELLECTUALS
des pseudo révoltés
PSEUDO-INSURGENTS
des bourgeouis anarchistes
ANARCHISTS BOURGEOIS

on est tous des tarés
WE ARE ALL MAD
juste bons pour l’asile
ONLY GOOD FOR THE ASYLUM
des âmes torturées
TORTURED SOULS
qui s’admirent le nombril
THAT ADMIRE THEIR BELLYBUTTONS
des valeurs falsifiées
FALSIFIED VALUES
des hippies à la manque
FAULTY HIPPIES
des requins de vivier
SHARKS IN A FISHTANK
avec un compte en banque
WITH A BANK ACCOUNT

ça peut paraitre drôle
THIS CAN SEEM FUNNY
mais c’est nous qu’on vient voir
BUT IT’S US THEY COME TO SEE
le soir au music-hall
IN THE EVENING AT THE VAUDEVILLE-SHOW
dans notre meilleur rôle
IN OUR BEST ROLE
et nous tours dérisoires
AND OUR RIDICULOUS TRICKS

on est tous des pédés
WE ARE ALL FAGS
des pervers des immondes
PERVERTS, DISGUSTING
des mendiants cravatés
BEGGARS WITH TIES
qui se croient gens du monde
BELVIEVING THEMSELVES COSMOPOLITAN
des cabots des paumés
GODFORSAKEN MUTTS
qui se croient gens de lettres
BELIEVING THEMSELVES AUTHORS
parce qu’ils ont fait rimer
BECAUSE THEY MADE RHYME
deux ou trois chansonettes
TWO OR THREE LITTLE SONGS

ça peut paraitre drôle
THIS CAN SEEM FUNNY
mais c’est nous qu’on vient voir
BUT IT’S US THEY COME TO SEE
le soir au music-hall
IN THE EVENING AT THE VAUDEVILLE-SHOW
dans notre meilleur rôle
IN OUR BEST ROLE
et nos tours dérisoires
AND OUR RIDICULOUS TRICKS

on es tous des drogués
WE ARE ALL DRUGGIES
qui ne pensent qu’à draguer
OUR THOUGHTS ARE ONLY OCCUPIED WITH CRUISING
des poètes ratés
MISSED POETS
des pseudo révoltés
PSEUDO-INSURGENTS
on est tous des tarés
WE ARE ALL MAD
des âmes torturées
TORTURED SOULS
des valeurs falsifiées
FALSIFIED VALUES
des requins de vivier
SHARKS IN A FISHTANK

on est tous des pédés
WE ARE ALL FAGS
des mendiants cravatés
BEGGARS WITH TIES
qui n’aiment pas travailler
THAT DO NOT LIKE TO WORK
qui ne pensent qu’à briller
THAT THINK ONLY OF HOW TO SHINE
des cabots des paumés
GODFORSAKEN MUTTS
qui parfois font rimer
THAT SOMETIMES RHYME
je t’aime avec tu m’aimes
I LOVE YOU WITH YOU LOVE ME
avec je t’aime, tu m’aimes
WITH I LOVE YOU, YOU LOVE ME
(words by georges moustaki)

and now i guess you would like to listen to it? it’s anyway a nice record. and some moustaki is always good: already his stunning beard is reason to admire him. the record in question, titled moustaki, dates from 1975 and is french chanson, but with musically an interesting openness: there is a bit of flamenco, a latin flavoured song, a tango (composed by astor piazolla), and some more lounge- or pop-flavours, too. i ripped it from vinyl as two mp3-files @ 192, and included some covers-scans. this is the tracklist:

side A: humblement il est venu-flamenco-la philosophie/batucada-le tango de demain

side B: pourquoi je chante-on est tous des pédés-une petite chanson(pour étienne)-ballade en fumée-les mille routes-humbly he came
